The nation is preparing to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee to mark 70 years of Her Majesty’s service to her country.

Although the official anniversary date falls in February, celebrations and events will take place throughout the year, culminating in a four-day UK bank holiday weekend from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June.

This means there’s never been a better time to bring your friends, family and neighbors together for a Jubilee Street Party.

Whether you need permissions from your council or how to decorate your Jubilee street party and Jubilee tea recipe ideas, we have all your questions answered in our guide below.

How to organize a jubilee party?

The good news is that anyone who wants to host a Platinum Jubilee street party can do so anytime during the holiday weekend.

However, as with any party, it does require a bit of planning. The government advises you contact your council at least six weeks in advance if you are likely to need a temporary road closure for your party.

Depending on where you live, your council may also ask you to complete a simple application form to host a street party.

You don’t need a risk assessment to hold a street party, nor will you need a permit to consume alcohol, food, or play music.

However, if you plan to sell alcohol at the event or if hosting a concert is the main purpose of the event, you will need to check if you need a Temporary Events Notice. – a short-term authorization for licensed activities, covering events with less than 500 people.

What to serve at a jubilee party?

With your permissions and guest lists sorted, it’s time to think about your food and drink menu.

Depending on the number of guests, it may be useful to ask everyone to bring a dish, so as not to spend the whole day in the kitchen.

Another thing to consider is whether it will be a stand-up or seated party – and if you’re struggling to come up with ideas of what to cook, Good household The kitchen team is here to inspire you.

How to decorate a Jubilee street party?

Fun decorations and accessories are a must to get everyone in the festive mood.

To create an instant party atmosphere, Good household Homes and Gardens Director, Carolyn Bailey, suggests using streamers draped between trees and along tables as well as tie knots made from strips of fabric or lengths of ribbon around the tops of dining chairs.

She said: “Make your own from scraps of fabric and use pinking shears to get an even edge that won’t fray.

“You can also use foliage and flowers from your garden and your neighbors – group together a selection of bud vases, milk bottles or jam jars filled with a mix of flowers to create an impact.”

Finally, she advises collecting a selection of china and matching glasses to create an eclectic look, with charity shops and garage sales being good sources of vintage pieces.

Where possible, also avoid plastic tableware and opt for bamboo options instead.
