Trying to give your home a makeover on a budget can be a challenge. However, if you spend more time indoors, rolling up your sleeves and diving into a DIY spot could be a fun and economical activity to try.

Daniel Huszar, 30, who lives in Durham and works in quality assurance, wanted to breathe new life into his salon. He used a fancy B&M wallpaper that cost just £9.99 to create a beadboard wall in his living room.

Daniel told the DIY On A Budget UK Facebook group: “I had seen ideas for wallpaper panels on Facebook using wallpaper, and my living room layout didn’t really work. It was quite cold, so I thought I would try the idea and make a feature film.

“I rearranged the living room, moved the TV and measured the gap between the frames. I then started laying the paper down and used two and a half widths for this.

“The wallpaper was from B&M, it was called ‘Wooden Slats Wallpaper’ and it cost £9.99 for a roll which was more than enough for the function.

The entire living room now has a nice welcoming feel

“It took about an hour and a half to do, and I had never wallpapered myself before! I just held the roll up to the wall, dropped it down and I I just made a small cut where the baseboard was.

“I cut this to the right size and then glued the paper on and put it on the wall. I just played with the paper until it was ok and it didn’t there are no more holes.

“A tip for newbies would be to get a paper that doesn’t have a hard match as that would have been much more difficult. I was anxious at first before doing this as I had never painted paper previously painted.

“But, once I took the leap and did the first strip, I was like, ‘I can really do this!’ walked into the bedroom.

“So that’s what I did – walked out, closed the door and walked in. I really like the wall and I’m proud I did it myself.

“It made the room feel so much warmer, with functionality and focus rather than just walls with a few pictures on them. I like to do things on a budget because it feels like an accomplishment.

“It really warmed up the living room and made it so, so simple. To be able to achieve this look for £13 is amazing and it changes the whole living room and the feel of the room!

A simple material from B&M totally changed the look of Daniel’s living room, and best of all, it only took him an hour and a half to do it!
